In 2010, Lyness was the subject of considerable refurbishment with over £3million being invested in new quay edge, laydown areas, fendering and services.

The main berths of the deeper water Lyness Wharf and to the north the Golden Wharf have been the hub of considerable marine renewable energy activity in recent years, but the berths are also suitable for oil & gas activity

Adjacent to Scapa Flow and with over 300,000 sq. metres of brownfield site available for industry, Lyness is perfectly suited to further development for oil and gas and decommissioning activity.

There is current in train, a proposed decommissioning project for Lyness to attract small to medium sized decommissioning projects from the North Sea.
