The Orkney Islands Council Harbour Authority has published the updated General Directions for the Ports and Harbours of Orkney, as of October 2025.
These Directions provide essential guidance for all vessels operating within Orkney’s Harbour Authority areas and set out key navigational, operational, and reporting requirements.
They are designed to support the safe and efficient movement of vessels, ensure compliance with harbour regulations, and safeguard the marine environment. The Directions are to be read alongside the Orkney Harbour Byelaws, Pilotage Directions, and Local Notices to Mariners (found under Port Information), forming part of the framework that underpins safe and effective marine management across the region.
