The new Caledonian MacBrayne ferry Loch Seaforth is visiting Orkney as part of a crew familiarisation exercise.

She was launched on 21 March 2014 and was delivered in early November 2014. She will replace the 1995-built MV Isle of Lewis as the main ferry on the route Ullapool to Stornaway.

The vessel has a passenger capacity of 700 passengers and 143 cars and a price tag of £42 million.The vessel arrived in Kirkwall on Sunday morning after steaming from Ullapool and, as part of the exercise, the crew practiced berthing procedures using the linkspan at Hatston Pier.

After an overnight stay alongside Kirkwall Pier, the Loch Seaforth is due to visit Scrabster on Monday, to carry out a similar exercise.
