Orkney Harbours is delighted to celebrate Hannah Drummond, Cruise Operations and Marketing Co-ordinator, who has successfully completed an MA (Hons) in Business Management at Heriot-Watt University while working full-time with Orkney Harbours
Alongside achieving her degree, Hannah has also been recognised with the Deputy Principal’s Award, marking an outstanding academic achievement and reflecting the dedication she has shown throughout her studies.

Balancing university study with the demands of a busy full-time role has required considerable commitment, particularly within the fast-paced environment of Orkney’s cruise and marine sectors.
In her role at Orkney Harbours, Hannah is involved in the coordination of cruise activity across Orkney’s harbour facilities, alongside supporting the promotion and marketing of Orkney Harbours and the islands’ wider maritime capabilities. Her studies in Business Management have complemented this work, allowing her to apply academic learning and new perspectives within her day-to-day role. Completing the degree while continuing to develop professionally within Orkney Harbours makes the achievement particularly significant and demonstrates the value of combining higher education with practical experience.
Hannah said:
“Completing my degree while working full-time has been challenging at times, but it has also been incredibly rewarding. Being able to apply what I have learned through my studies directly to my role at Orkney Harbours has made the experience particularly valuable.
I’m really proud to have completed the degree and to receive the Deputy Principal’s Award.. I’m very grateful for the support and encouragement I’ve received from my colleagues at Orkney Harbours throughout my studies, and I’m looking forward to continuing to build on what I’ve learned as my career develops.”

Laura Cromarty, Head of Marine Services and Transportation said
“We’re extremely proud of Hannah’s achievement. Completing an honours degree while working full-time requires a huge amount of dedication and self-discipline. Hannah has continued to make an important contribution to the team throughout her studies, and this recognition is thoroughly deserved.”

Hannah’s achievement reflects Orkney Harbours’ commitment to supporting professional development, building skills within its workforce, and investing in the people who will help shape the future of Orkney’s maritime sector.
