Marine Officer/VTS Operator (Ref: ORK03532)
37 hours per week, 12 hour shift rota
£39,993 (including shift allowance, Distant Islands Allowance and 1.2 hrs Contractual Overtime)
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Marine Officer/VTS Operator in Orkney. Candidates for the post must possess a minimum of an OOW certificate or V103/1 VTS Operator certificate. Consideration will be given to candidates with relevant experience and in possession of other appropriate marine certificates.
The Marine Officers duties will include port control room manning (radar surveillance, VHF operations, CCTV monitoring etc) on a watch keeping basis together with routine operations of the Port VTS information service. The successful applicant will be required to live permanently on the mainland of Orkney as the roster involves working 12 hour shifts day and night.
If you do not possess VTS Operators course V103/1 you must complete these prior to being offered a permanent contract of employment.
The Council is negotiating changes in its terms and conditions of employment to meet the single status agreement and the pay and conditions currently attaching to this vacancy are likely to change.
