Sunday the 12 June saw 3 liners call into Kirkwall in glorious sunshine to deliver 1500 passengers for a day of excursions and shopping in Orkney. Being the last day of the Weeping Window Poppy display at St Magnus Cathedral, this venue was particularly popular with cruise liner visitors, and the street of Kirkwall were busy all day.

The Pacific Princess was on her inaugural visit to Kirkwall and Councillor Rachel King and Harbour Master Brian Archibald presented a welcome engraved plaque to the ship’s Master along with a hamper of local delicacies.

Le Boreal and Voyager have both been to Kirkwall on previous occasions. Michael Morrison from Orkney Marine Services said,’ We were pleased to be able to berth all 3 vessels at Hatston and this assisted greatly with tour despatches and shuttle bus operations. Originally Le Boreal was coming to the Kirkwall anchorage, but we were able to accommodate her satisfactorily on the ro – ro berth.’
