Orkney Island's Council Marine Services have issued a pre-qualification questionnaire to assess industry appetite for the provision of a marine gas oil bunkering service in Kirkwall Harbour and Scapa Flow. A previous similar exercise did not produce the results the Harbour Authority had hoped for due to the fact that both a short term (2 years) solution and a longer term solution was being asked for within the same document. Michael Morrison, Business Development Manager with the Local Authority's Marine Services said, "The provision of a permanent bunkering facility in Orkney is the corner stone of our future business development strategy and without the provision of bunkers to our stakeholders, we are inclined to be viewed as less competitive in relation to our direct competitors. The Harbour Authority has excellent berthing facilities, is about to bring into commission a 500 tonne fresh water facility with a pump rate of up to 50 tonnes per hour, and to complete our service delivery to visiting vessels, bunkering provision is essential."

The document is published on the Procurement Contracts Scotland website and can be accessed from here.
