Following a visit by representatives of Orkney Islands Council Marine Services to the Tyovene Oy shipyard in Finland, the build programme for the new pilot boat John Rae is reported to be on schedule with the vessel due to be launched the week commencing the 26th April.

The 21.8 metre vessel with a maximum speed of 21 knots, will be delivered by sea and although there are concerns that there may be delays out of Finland due to sea ice conditions, the vessel is slated to depart the week of the 17th May with an anticipated arrival date in Orkney of week commencing 1st June.

The Kirkwall registered vessel is due to have a naming ceremony in mid June when Alastair Cameron and his wife Audrey who won the naming competition last year, will perform the honours.
