John Rae Officially Named
In bright summer sunshine and with a large crowd of onlookers, OIC's new pilot boat the John Rae was officially named on Thursday afternoon (10th June) in Stromness by OIC Convenor Stephen Hagan.
Competition winners Alastair and Audrey Cameron from Kirkwall sprayed a bottle of champagne over the bow of the new vessel before sailing around Stromness harbour with other Councillors and Officials.
A cocktail party was held afterwards in the Pier Arts Centre where a video of the vessel build and sea trials was shown to invited guests.
