John Rae is launched in Finland
Orkney Islands Council Marine Services new pilot boat the John Rae was launched today at the Tyovene Oy shipyard in Finland one week ahead of schedule.
The 21.8 metre vessel with a maximum speed of 21 knots, will be delivered by sea to Orkney and is slated to depart the week of the 17th May following sea trials with an anticipated arrival date in Orkney of week commencing 1st June.
The naming ceremony for the John Rae will be held in Stromness on the 10th June.
